The weekly roundup of all things immersive is here.

Yes: the clock is TICKING on participation in the 2020 Immersive Industry Survey which fuels the Immersive Industry Report.

The deadline for participation is Feb 28th and we need the insight of creators and producers to make this year’s report even more useful than last year’s widely cited report was.

And now, on with the shows!

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

NoPro’s Executive Editor Kathryn Yu speaks to multi-hyphenate artist Jessica Creane of IKantKoan Games, the creator of immersive shows such as Chaos Theory and Know Thyself.

They discuss the collision of theatre and games, audience agency, designing for meaningful choice, what keeps her going as an artist, creating safe spaces using immersive theatre, how her work bleeds into everyday life, as well as (spoiler) the time she cut off all her hair in front of a live audience.

Catch Jessica as Dr. Genevieve Saoch in Chaos Theory at Caveat in New York City on March 5, April 2, and May 7.

At The Kingsland Ward

Taught by Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, Associate Artistic Director of Third Rail Projects, this three-hour workshop will share skills and methods to create movement in site specific and immersive environments, investigating how to yield into, counter, locomote over, and explore what is possible when moving on architecture and furniture. This workshop will delve into the questions that arise: How do we take care of our bodies? How do we take safe risks and make bold choices? How do we make movement that is organic to the particular structure we are working on? Open to all skill levels. A dance or theater background is not required, but a willingness to move and explore is a requisite.

TCG’s Rising Leaders of Color (RLC) Program

Deadline: March 10, 2020

TCG’s strategic plan includes a multi-year Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Initiative (EDII) to transform the national theatre field into a more equitable, inclusive and diverse community. The Rising Leaders of Color (RLC) Program is part of that initiative and is an expansion and re-envisioning of TCG’s Young Leaders of Color Program (YLC) which launched in 2008. Alongside TCG’s SPARK Leadership Program, RLC is changing the face of the theatre field by nurturing and supporting an intergenerational network of leaders of color at various stages in their careers.
