Libraría: Stanzas, at Ace Hotel New York, is a gallery exhibition that focuses on film, verse, art installation, and augmented reality. The still frames, excerpts, and poetry fragments that comprise the work relay the symbolic layers of the artist’s dreams in a catalog that dates back to 1993. Stanzas is part of a larger project called Libraría, which maps individual, colloquial, and collective unconsciousness through the nightly dream cinema and manifests these within “branches” of the library. Branches are interactive art installations and performances in a variety of formats, media, and venues, ranging from ephemeral manifestations, to temporary exhibitions, to forthcoming publications, and a more permanent online collection which will be available as an on-demand series beginning in late summer.
Opening reception is FREE and open to the general public and includes a short performance, but attendance is extremely limited. RSVP required.
All films are shot exclusively on iPhone, for display as flip books, still frames, projections, and as a series of hyper-photo images which form a mosaic along the length of a gallery wall. Each hyperphoto is a portal, a dynamic link using augmented reality technology which can be viewed on smartphones via the free LifePrint app. When a visitor opens the app and places their phone over a photo, the photo becomes a moving image — and each moving image, a link in a chain of abstract narrative.
NOTE: Before visiting the gallery, it is highly recommended that you have a reliable mobile/wifi connection and that you download the LifePrint app in advance in order to view the hyperphotos. A fully charged device or outside battery pack is also recommended. The hyper photo component comprises about one-fourth of the exhibit.
