In the premiere of their latest participatory dance project, WET CLUTCH, the Dance Cartel reimagines and remixes heroines from American cinema ranging from Pam Anderson’s “Barb Wire” to Ripley in “Alien.” The performance centers around a group of dancers who interact with the audience and a simulated drive-in movie theatre (including cars), dancing alongside video projections, all culminating in a dance party with a live DJ.
You might know the Dance Cartel from their work ONTHEFLOOR, their events in venues across New York City like PS1 and BAM, or the music videos they’ve done with musicians such as Yoko Ono and Reggie Watts.
Post-premiere, the collective plans to move the show from venue to venue around the New York metro area and beyond, inviting audience vehicles to join in the fun wherever possible.
