The horror and the poetry of this supernatural tragedy are magnified as the moon rises over Macbeth’s castle — represented by the stone walls of the Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City. You’ll be up close to the action as you travel with the actors through the historic park. Audience size will be limited for the movable play, as we want the crowd to enjoy the full experience of being up close to the traveling action. We encourage advance purchase of tickets online. The ticket tent and gates will open 90 minutes before the play.
For the “movable” play: If you bring a picnic, please use disposable packaging: Do not carry coolers or chairs to the park. There is no place to store personal belongings when the play begins to travel through the park. You’ll be walking or standing outdoors through most of the performance. Please wear comfortable shoes.

This is a “movable” play, meaning the audience will walk and stand with the actors throughout the play. In a few scenes, there may be limited seating, but most of the play is “on the move.”
The park and portions of the 1837 ruins, which are maintained by Howard County, are generally accessible from the disabled-access parking pad inside the hilly park. During the movable Macbeth, the audience travels through the grass, on gravel and paved paths, and into the upper and lower levels of the stone ruins. Accessibility and sight-lines are not guaranteed for some scenes taking place in the rougher terrain of the park and in some sections of the ruins. We invite you to contact the box office staff before your visit so we can assist you in planning your experience of movable Macbeth.
We do our best to complete every performance, but sometimes, to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff, we may need to cancel a performance. If the performance has already begun, and the weather radar shows the storm will pass, we will hold the show for up to 45 minutes.
