A week of transformational lusty mixed reality immersive news
Wow, what a week! Secretive tech startup Magic Leap finally announced to the world what they’ve been up to the mixed reality space over the last few years. Meanwhile, Punchdrunk, immersive theatre pioneers and creators of Sleep No More, talked to Wired about their plans to drastically change their format by reinventing their approach to immersive theatre through technology.
And over here, we announced that Diana Williams, Content Strategist for ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm, and Curtis Hickman, CCO & co-founder of The Void, will be joining the The Immersive Design Summit to talk about their brand new hyper reality experience, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, which just opened in London and Orlando.
Also this week, NoPro featured our first ever guest review from Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic who gave his perspective on The Lust Experience’s “mid-season” event in Los Angeles. We had some necessary discussion around permitting and the fate of “Instagram palaces” Candytopia and Happy Place in LA. And we were lucky enough to hold another Slack Ask Me Anything with Strother Gaines, the Artistic Director and Founder of TBD Immersive in Washington, DC. A transcript of that will be posted soon. Plus on the podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking to experience designer Ida Benedetto who is the author of Patterns of Transformation: Designing Sex, Death, and Survival in the 21st Century; you might also know her from that secret, illegal water tower speakeasy in New York City a few years ago.

THIS WEEK ON THE PODCAST
Ida Benedetto is the author of Patterns of Transformation: Designing Sex, Death and Survival in the 21st Century. That work came about thanks to years of practice as an experience designer, including being part of the legendary Night Heron speakeasy brain trust.
She joins NoPro NYC curator Kathryn Yu to discuss her approach to experience design.
