Because the immersion never stops
It’s another huge week here in Immersive-stan!
The VAULT Festival in London announced what’s in store for their 2019 fest; Sundance announced the programming for the New Frontier program in 2019; and V&A’s Game Design conference Parallel Worlds also announced their upcoming conference slate. And Secret Cinema announced their next London show will be James Bond-themed.
Plus: there’s a LEIA-presented Chained talkback happening in LA next week, a NoPro/Everything Immersive meetup in LA in January, Room Escape Artist’s fan shindig in Boston in December, and oh, we should tell you that our friends over at REA have just kicked off their Patreon (link below)!
But wait, there’s more: interviews from makers in Nashville, London, Amherst, Houston, Portland, Anaheim, and NYC, as well as the normal show listings and reviews.
Scroll on down for that, and so much more.

From David & Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist:
“We are excited to have joined NoPro on Patreon! Thank you, NoPro, for the support in setting this up and for being our very first backer. Thank you to the NoPro supporters who are already backing our us too and supporting our efforts to build a community of players and creators that will sustain the escape room industry for the future.”
From Laura E. Hall, author and escape room/puzzle designer:
“From Mimic XR (@mimic_xr), a proprietary scanning method allows for AR with photorealistic reactions to environmental lighting. Looks so good it seems fake, but it’s not. Hope to someday see this tech used for experimental art and games.”
From Ricky Brigante, pseudonym productions:
“After recovering from the 6-week insanity that was #NOFILTER and a 2-week turkey hangover, this week our pseudonym productions team officially begun development on our next experience(s). For now, that statement remains intentionally vague.”
“As we reach the two year anniversary of the Ghost Ship tragedy, this story is well worth reading as a continued reminder of why we as experience designers must always keep the safety of our guests as our top priority.”
From Lance Weiler of the Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab:
“In 2019, I’ll be opening a new immersive storytelling experience in NYC and LA. An investigate podcast meets immersive theatre meets an escape room. Where There’s Smoke is the most personal and vulnerable work I’ve ever attempted to make.”
“An amazing story about Ed Smith and his Imagination Machine. A long but inspiring read about determination and innovation set in the early 80s gaming Industry.”
From Damian Madray, Presence:
“This episode of EXPDSN features Paul Bulencea, co-founder of the College of Extraordinary Experiences and Jean Philippe Rosier, founder Perestroika.
We will be diving into designing transformational learning experiences. We will be exploring questions around the importance of immersive and experiential learning, the core principals we can use to design experiential learning that enables people to transform themselves and experience design tools can we use to make learning environments as immersive as possible.”
