Immersive glows in the dark
So what happened this week? Magic Leap announced the winners of their grant contest; Microsoft unveiled details on the HoloLens 2; Walt Disney Imagineering got a huge feature in the LA Times about their work with the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge; and last weekend Meow Wolf announced their upcoming hotel project in Phoenix. That’s right: a freaking Meow Wolf hotel.
Oh, and the Immersive Design Summit happened in SF! Ricky Brigante announced an annual industry report, a bunch of tweeting happened (#ids2019), and we had some reporters on the ground. Meanwhile, back at NoPro HQ, we interviewed folks who do immersive on an fantasy island, on a real-life airline flight, and completely remotely, and published two deep dives into the remounts of The Willows and Delusion: The Blue Blade in Los Angeles.
All that and more: below.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK
NYC Curator and NoPro Managing Editor Kathryn Yu tracks down the always busy Kellian Adams Pletcher and Brian Pletcher of Green Door Labs for a wide-ranging conversation about the collision of immersive theatre and game design.
They discuss Kellian and Brian’s work on shows like Club Drosselmeyer and Save the Munbax and how their approach to audience agency and interactive storytelling has changed over the years, as well as touching on topics such as designing diegetic puzzles, allowing the audience to choose their level of engagement, incorporating different types of game mechanics, designing experiences for both the general public and “super-puzzlers,” writing bad endings on purpose, and much, much more.
