Hold on, hold on
No Proscenium & Everything Immersive This Week is brought to you by:

This week in immersive news: So, so much.
Across the pond, Time Run has announced they’ll create a 17,000 square foot escape room experience based upon the BBC’s Sherlock (in collaboration with co-creators Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss and executive producer Sue Vertue) and they have plans for a global rollout. One of the actors in the now-closed The Hollow Hotel by differencEngine in London wrote in The Stage about the risks inherent in making immersive theatre.
Here in the USA, The VOID VR announced a huge expansion to 9 new locations across the country. Leap Motion announced that their Project North Star AR headset will be open source, while Magic Leap revealed… not all that much during a video livestream of their headset. The award-winning agency Campire (Westworld: The Experience, San Diego Comic Con, New York Comic Con) has announced that they’re joining The Mill. And our wonderful sponsors at Meow Wolf won a Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in New Mexico. Oh, and some news from LEIA is in the mix as well.
Plus, our friends at Strange Bird Immersive in Houston announced that The Man From Beyond will be closing its doors on July 15… but not for good. They’re moving into a bigger, permanent location this fall and working on a second immersive theatre-escape room hybrid. What?!
That’s not all: we’re got a ton of new stuff up on NoPro this week including interviews with the creators of two new shows in LA (I Pledge Allegiance, The Sideshow). Hollywood Fringe is in full swing in LA, and we’re updating the site with reviews, both capsule-sized and regular-strength as they roll in. See all of our Hollywood Fringe Festival 2018 coverage here.
We’re ever so busy on our Twitter, Facebook, Slack, and Instagram, while also devouring each new episode of Westworld and trying to reach our next goal on Patreon. Won’t you join us?
The immersive rocket ship has blasted off. Don’t forget to buckle up, kids. We’re in for a wild, wild ride.
ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK
There’s something magical going on in Downtown Los Angeles. Something simple, and oh-so-needed in this day and age.
It’s called The Silent Play Experiment, and it is exactly what it says on the tin. Host Noah Nelson sits down with its co-creator Olivia Hamilton to talk about the experience, the company that gave birth to it, and the road to embracing play.
