Firelight Collective’s ‘Stars in the Night,’ coming to Brooklyn this September

Our immersive cup runneth over

No Proscenium and Everything Immersive This Week is brought to you by:

What a week. The Magic Leap One Creator Edition finally dropped, for a cool $2,295, to mixed reviews. Our friends over at Strange Bird Immersive reported back on their observations from attending the Room Escape Conference. And the world got a peek at some interesting statistics on the logistics behind a Secret Cinema show. Plus, David and Lisa over at Room Escape Artist announced that they will be not only giving an Adventure Design Group talk in San Francisco on the 20th, but they’re also hosting a shindig in LA on the 23rd!

Here at NoPro: we interviewed Stephanie and Nathan of Firelight Collective about bringing their show Stars in the Night from LA to NYC. We also compiled a non-comprehensive list of 25 Immersive Companies and Creators to Watch in NYC. NoPro also dropped in on two immersive experiences in LA: one filled with dirty puppets and gambling, and the other a 90s-soaked pop-up shop, as well as the Assassination of Edgar Allen Poe, currently running at the historic Pico House in Los Angeles. And we just announced our NoPro Night Out at a showing of Cafe Play in NYC; join us for a talkback with the creators on September 30th!

And Noah also sat down with the wonderful Jeff Wirth of Interactive Playlab for the NoPro podcast. (Oh, and if you manage all your podcasts through Spotify, you can now find us there, too.)

More on all that… below.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

Jeff Wirth has been a lot of things in his life: university professor, computer programmer, ballroom dancer, and clown. These days he’s the wandering sage of interactive performance, leading the Interactive PlayLab which is best known for the Deep Dive think tank that created work that was both intimate and large scale at the same time.

Wirth has been crisscrossing America leading workshops in interactive acting techniques and design, and after a recent stop in Los Angeles he sat down with our own Noah Nelson for a philosophical deep dive of their own.

Also this week: we kick things off with an impromptu field report from The InkHole, the latest promotional pop-up from the Giant Spoon/Mycotoo team, which brings the curious into the fabulously felt world of The Happytime Murders.
