Stealing his words, calling him a madman, claiming to have been his secret lovers or bosom friends…Selling lockets of his hair…When they’d gnawed the last few dollars off his body, they tried to bury what remained: his life, his work, the total of his being. Put it all in a coffin and nailed it shut.
