“Casting The Audience” will trace the evolution of Woodshed Collective as a means to explore what is required of immersive work — both in form and process. As the company’s productions have taken different forms and inhabited different spaces, we have been forced to confront all the ways and all the battlefields upon which immersive work comes alive or falls short. The presentation will use the company’s own work as a case study to explore these questions and the working rules we try to make work by.
Teddy Bergman is a New York based director, producer, and actor. As the Artistic Director of acclaimed immersive theater company Woodshed Collective, he has co-conceived and directed many productions including: Twelve Ophelias, The Confidence Man, The Tenant, the critically acclaimed Empire Travel Agency and most recently the hit immersive musical KPOP (9 Lortel Nominations including Best Musical, 2018 Winner of the Richard Rodgers Award). His work as a director has also been seen at The Public Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Ars Nova, Ma-Yi Theater Company, Portland Center Stage, Columbia University, Primary Stages, The Vineyard Arts Project, Space on Ryder Farm, Clubbed Thumb, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. As an actor his theater work includes: the Tony Award Winning play Peter And The Starcatcher (original broadway cast), Philip Goes Forth (The Mint), Sex Lives of Our Parents (2nd Stage), Peter and the Starcatcher (NYTW), Seven Minutes in Heaven (HERE), Hell House (St. Ann’s), I.E. (The Flea), and regionally at Bay Street, Williamstown, Huntington, and La Jolla. His film work includes Wolves, Listen Up Philip, Fading Gigolo, Hairbrained, Julie and Julia, Little Big League, and Honeymoon in Vegas. TV work includes: “Good Girls Revolt,” “The Affair,”“Law and Order: SVU,”“As The World Turns, “ and more. He is a graduate of Vassar College where he graduated with general and departmental honors in Philosophy. He was also awarded the Vernon Vable Prize for overall excellence in Philosophy.
