Convention is the true-and-overlooked story of what happened at the 1944 Democratic National Convention. Franklin D. Roosevelt, running for his fourth term and on the brink of death, is choosing his running mate for Vice President. The Vice President will become President. A bidding war begins. Voter manipulation, power corruption, special interests, big business, sexism, racism. When we developed the play after the 2016 election, it seemed timely … now, it seems almost prescient. Yeah, yeah politics. What’s new? This.
Composed like an orchestral piece of music using the Score Technique, a massive ensemble of 42 actors create a unique narrative experience: a play that is equal parts immersive and traditional; about big ideas, in slapstick.
