THE DEAD, 1904 is an adaptation, by Paul Muldoon and Jean Hanff Korelitz, of James Joyce’s classic holiday story, “The Dead.” In this immersive version, directed by Ciaran O’Reilly, audience members will themselves attend the Morkan sisters’ annual party, move from room to room with the actors, listen to the music, watch the dances, share food and drink with the characters.
THE DEAD, 1904 received its world premiere from the Irish Repertory Theatre in 2016 at the American Irish Historical Society’s period mansion on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and returned to the same location from November 18, 2017 — January 7, 2018. Wine, spirits and a Victorian meal (inspired by the dinner in Joyce’s story and created by Great Performances catering) are an intrinsic part of the adaptation. The audience is limited to 57 people. Snow will be general.
THE DEAD, 1904 is produced by Dot Dot Productions, Laurie Eustis and Kathleen Begala in association with the American Irish Historical Society.
