About the Show: The term “teenager” was first emerging in America in the 1950s. Being caught in between childhood and adulthood holds its specific challenges: both then and now. Then: youth juggled dealing with the challenges and fears of a post-WWII world, the newly acute Cold War/Space Race with Russia with the launch of Sputnik, the cultural upset of the obscenity trial of Ginsberg’s Howl; all while messily assembling their own identity as a young person with the drama of high school. Midnight Streetlight Smalltown is especially poignant as we similarly juggle today’s political and cultural climate with our own, everyday confusing and disconcerting uncertainties.
The 5th Wall is a collective of artists creating original, immersive and interactive theatre for the North Shore of Massachusetts. Merging installation, interactive and physical theatre, we specialize in devised, site-specific theatre, immersive experiences and interdisciplinary collaboration.
