The upcoming ‘Japantown Immersive’ in San Jose, CA

Immersive rumblings getting louder and louder in the distance

Leap Motion announced plans for a $100 AR headset with hand-tracking. The Stage took a thoughtful look at the growing pains immersive is experiencing right now, especially in the UK. And in Star Wars news (because it always comes back to Star Wars), The VOID announced that their next location going to be in Las Vegas… and Disney filed some intriguing patent applications for an immersive hotel room experience (consider our eyebrows raised). Things are heating up — can’t you feel it?

Here at NoPro, we also caught up with our friends at Odyssey Works with the Immersive 5. They’ve also announced a call for participants for their next Odyssey in Mexico this summer (link below). Very exciting stuff as they haven’t done so in five years. And our friends Derek Spencer and Meredith Treinen of Ceaseless Fun dropped by for a very special episode of the NoPro podcast.

As always, the NoPro North America newsletter comes out once a week, mid-week, while LA and NYC come out every two weeks. Sign up here if you’re not already on the list.

And of course: No Proscenium is a labor of love made possible by our Patreon backers. Join us today! Thank you to ALL of our backers.

We literally can’t do this work without the generous support of readers like you and even $1/month helps immensely.

In addition to the No Proscenium web site, our podcast, and our newsletters, you can find NoPro on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, in our Facebook community Everything Immersive, and on our Slack forum. And do join the Slack to chat with makers and fans of immersive from all around the world in a non-algorithmically driven fashion.

And if you’re in LA, we’ll see you IRL at Office Hours this Saturday at the Thirsty Crow starting at 2pm.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

Derek Spencer and Meredith Treinen of Ceaseless Fun drop in with beer and pecan pie to talk about their most recent show — Agnosia — and the upcoming They Who Saw The Deep in Los Angeles.

Don’t worry, we save the pie for afterwards. But it is one of THOSE episodes thanks to the beer. In fact, it’s officially an NoPro After Dark.

We get into process in this one, so you know I love it.
