Hey folks! We’ve been super busy on the site this week, with features and interviews and reviews coming in from Utah, Boston, NYC, LA, London, Orlando, and more, as well as news from the Immersive Design Summit.
Plus: we’re trying something NEW this week, asking our friends from around the community about what they’re working on, features and articles they’ve really dug this week, and what else they found interesting in immersive-land this week! Scroll down to see more!

IMMERSIVE DESIGN SUMMIT
The Immersive Design Summit returns to San Francisco on February 22nd and 23rd, 2019. We are delighted to announce our new venue for this year: The Swedish American Hall. For one weekend, we’ll be taking over this historic venue and filling it with 200 of the greatest minds in the immersive industry.
We are also absolutely thrilled to announce our first three speakers this year: Fri Forjindam, Chief Development Officer of Mycotoo (one of the teams behind this year’s smash hit SXSWestworld); Sean Stewart, Creative Director / Design Director for Magic Leap and co-creator of the entire genre of Alternate Reality Games; and Jenni Magee-Cook, Head of Production for Dreamscape Immersive (creators of the groundbreaking virtual reality experience Alien Zoo). Many more speakers will be announced in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
Applications to attend the Immersive Design Summit go live on October 18 and stay open until November 15. People from under-represented backgrounds will be especially encouraged to apply. We’ll also announce pricing on October 18.
Read on to check out our speaker bios, check out videos from last year on YouTube (which we’ll continue to roll out in the coming weeks), and stay in touch via Twitter and Instagram for the latest announcements.
ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK
Matt Dorado’s Drunken Devil has been a fixture of the LA immersive scene for years now. Starting out as a haunt, the company transitioned to nightlife events with a flair for horror themes and immersive elements.
This Spooky Season the company will present the next in its series of deadly sin themed soirees: Bacchanalia, a trip back to Rome sans togas. (No one wants togas.)
Dorado sits down at NoPro headquarters with host Noah Nelson to talk about the company’s origin story and what’s on tap this Fall.
CONTENT ADVISORY: we discuss the lives, and actions of serial killers — the subjects of To Live and Dine In LA — in this episode. There are details, including discussion of sexual violence.

From Kent Bye, Voices of VR:
“I conducted a rare interview with Integral Philosopher Ken Wilber about the potential of VR to create transformational experiences. Experiential Designers are modelers of consciousness, & listening to Wilber’s model of the world will no doubt help you refine your own model of reality.”
From Michael Anderson, ARGN.com:
“The literary inspired webseries Emma Approved is returning for the 5th anniversary of its launch. Patreon ‘shareholders’ can influence the direction of the fictional company, complete with monthly board meetings. That’s right, board meetings!”
From Ricky Brigante, psuedonym productions:
“We’ve announced our new experience #NOFILTER! A horrifyingly satirical,
totally narcissistic thriller starring YOU.”
“I’m excited to see other creators dancing (quite literally) around the same ideas that we have been working on. When I read this experience allows participants to “make meaningful choices that have unique consequences, and confront and reflect on your own views” I was instantly excited and can’t wait to see how this comes together.”
From Damian Madray, Founder of Presence:
“I wrote this piece as an exploration in awe, the overview effect, and why experiential art should be more recognized as an art form after realizing that #dearMoon project doesn’t have an experiential artist. It’s my inquiry into awe, my way of understanding it, digging into and unpacking it.”
Check out also Damian’s live web cast show, happening Monday at 12pm ET/9am PT:
