Theatre artist Diana Wyenn (Blood/Sugar) has brought together a team of actors, dancers and musicians for a performance “that invites audience members to spend an afternoon outdoors following their curiosity and engaging with the natural, the immaterial, and the enduring” amongst the sculptures on the American Jewish University's campus.
Official Description Follows
Two young women devour the knowledge of books casting their pages aside like fallen leaves, a childhood game opens up into a galaxy of possibilities, a man who is losing his sight shares what he can still see, a violinist responds to the sounds of our breath and the traffic of the 405.
A feast for the senses and the imagination, Knowing Not Knowing is a site-specific performance by Los Angeles-based director and choreographer Diana Wyenn that invites audience members to spend an afternoon outdoors following their curiosity and engaging with the natural, the immaterial, and the enduring. Inspired by and in dialogue with the permanent abstract sculpture works of Aldo Casanova, Fletcher Benton, George Rickey, Jenny Holzer, and others, Wyenn and her ensemble of gifted actors, dancers and musicians activate The Sondra and Marvin Smalley Sculpture Garden with a series of temporary performance installations that reveal and revel in the tension and beauty of knowing not knowing.
Roaming around and embedded throughout the grounds, this durational performance can be experienced in sequence or out of time, by individuals or small groups. Repetition and wandering are encouraged as is bringing guests of all ages. Entry to the performance begins at 3 pm and concludes at 7 pm.
