You enter from the street. A nurse welcomes you silently, then leads you further inside the theater. You notice she is holding a folder with your name on it. You see a bus stop sign hanging on the wall, a chalk circle drawn on the floor, a door blocked off with caution tape. The nurse moves her hands strangely and carefully above your head, then opens your folder. You see a form labeled: “Advanced Directive for Dementia Patients.” A woman in black enters. She looks you in the eye with compassion and says: “You are safe. You are home. You are loved.” Shouting is audible in the next room. A patient has been missing all night in an ice storm. Her father wants answers now.

Is Memory Home a polestar of hope and radical freedom? Or is it a mismanaged institution run by a traumatized and delusional director?
