On the First Friday of October, Ninth Planet and Brandi Burgess will premiere selections from Honey Honey, a new immersive performance for young adults. Collaboratively created by an ensemble of all-star Philly devisers, this queer fantasia will transform Cherry Street Pier into a cosmic house party for one night only.
Featuring live performance, video projection, and original music from Philly DJs Jacqueline Constance, BB Basura and Rachel Sumi Ishikawa, Honey Honey is an underground rave and experiential theatre piece rolled into one. Audiences encounter a kaleidoscope of love songs, motorcycle joy rides, and secret rendezvous spilling across the Pier, as the performance loops several times over the course of the night. Fresh from a Pilot Artist Residency at Christ Church Neighborhood House, Honey Honey has received support from Theatre Philadelphia to bring this early showing to the public.
Ninth Planet and Burgess have invited youth artists of Philadelphia to display an accompanying selection of visual and digital artwork at Cherry Street Pier in conversation with the themes of the performance. Audiences are encouraged to view both the performance and the art exhibition as one shared bill, expressing the young adult experience in a multitude of mediums. More details on youth artists to be announced soon!
