We’re back with our guide to the week ahead’s offerings!
Let’s get to it!
New York City
Pick of the Week: Found
NoPro social correspondent Michaela Holland tagged Found as her pick of the week, a show that our reviewer Allie Marotta calls an “exciting progression” of the immersive field.
Philadelphia
Pick of the Week: 2ND Sanctuary
MY GOD what a spectacular, weird three ring circus of a show it is. Combining 70’s music, nostalgia, an escape room, a camp aerialist dance macabre, and a few genuine chills, it’s a fully formed breath of fresh air in the “haunt” space. Disco is dead, but Halloween is for zombies to come out and play — it’s the most improbably perfect match, and it works spectacularly! — Blake Weil, NoPro NYC

Other Pick: Dark Passage (Blake Weil)
Chicago
Most Anticipated: Rabbit Hole Society: Fall Edition
With attending their Spring Edition, I found diving into the immersive interactive activities beforehand allowed me to connect to the stories being shared in a more personal way I wouldn’t have otherwise. They’re building a real grassroots experience from scratch and I can’t wait to see where it goes next. — Patrick McLean, NoPro Chicago
San Francisco
Pick of the Week: Museum of the Hidden City
This a free (donation suggested) augmented-reality experience taking place in the Fillmore neighborhood in San Francisco. Primarily told through the intertwined stories of two characters, archival audio of several other historical figures, and spoken poetry, Museum of the Hidden city takes participants on a journey through the history of an area once known as the “Harlem of the West,” and interrogates the ways the neighborhood, San Francisco, and communities across the country can be transformed and lost, and how it figures into the housing crisis the city faces today. It’s a moving and eye opening experience for both residents and visitors alike. — Brian Resler
Santa Clarita, CA
Pick of the Week: Intruder Escape
It was a two hour adventure set within the confines of a horror film…solve the puzzles, avoid the masked intruders, and try not to scream. But even if you do, you’re literally in the middle of nowhere. No one can hear you anyway. Definitely worth the drive to Santa Clarita! — Jeff Heimbuch, HorroBuzz
Los Angeles
Pick of the Week: House of Spirits
Two hours in a Haunted House for grown-ups with craft cocktails, crazy creatures, and a truck with really good pasta? Well, you don’t have to ask us twice. But you can, especially if you’re paying. It would be great if there was just a bar like this year round. — Noah Nelson, Publisher, NoPro
Most Anticipated:I love you so much, SQUEEZE ME TO DEATH
Koryn Ann Wicks is remounting her immersive dance concert, I love you so much, SQUEEZE ME TO DEATH which tackles themes around co-dependence through movement and audience interaction. I was lucky enough to see some of their rehearsals and capture it for our YouTube channel. Catch it at the Bootleg Theater in LA this weekend. — Kathryn Yu, Exec. Editor, NoPro
Also Anticipated: The Nest (Kevin Gossett, NoPro LA)
San Diego
Most Anticipated: Without Walls Festival
Look, this is basically cheating, as there’s new work from Third Rail Projects (IKAROS), and Optika Moderna (LAS QUINCEAÑERAS) who are responsible for two of our favorite immersive productions ever. If you’re not there this weekend, you’re missing out. Seriously. I’m making my “I’m judging you” face. -Noah Nelson, NoPro
Patron Most Anticipated: Without Walls Festival
We’re headed down to San Diego this weekend for the biennial Without Walls Festival. We snagged tickets to a handful of shows are love the idea of getting out of town and consuming all sorts of unique and immersive art. Hope to see others in La Jolla! — Jeff & Andy Crocker
