Our advance into the holidays sees an uptick in virtual reality picks, as the Christmas shopping season yields some long anticipated gems. (Thank goodness they’re good!)
Below you will find Staff Picks and Most Anticipated, and picks from patrons of the site. All linked for your convenience. Want to join in the picks? Our Patreon backers get a chance each week, and you can look for the Pick of the Week thread on the Everything Immersive group on Facebook.
NEW YORK CITY
Staff Pick of the Week: UCC Omega
A delicious cocktail of William Gibson and D23, UCC Omega sees Future Proof finally realizing their potential. I haven’t laughed as much at a show in a long time. Where else, in one night, can you grab a soju at a Margaritaville parody, weaponize the Y2K bug against dystopian animatronics, and live out your 90’s hacker fantasies? — Blake Weil, NoPro NYC Editor (read his full review)
Patron Pick of the Week: The Oddly Satisfying Spa
I found The Oddly Satisfying Spa to be a mesmerizing mix of other faves of mine like VR World, Ambient Church, Spa Castle, and my own dear old show Whisperlodge, but also something wholly its own. The rainbow therapy alone is worth the price of entry. — Andrew Hoepfner
CHICAGO
Staff Most Anticipated: Nevermore Park

It doesn’t take long walking around before stumbling across Hebru Brantley’s Flyboy and Lil Mama dynamically displayed across the side of a building somewhere in Chicago. The imagery being conveyed on each wall separately is deep and alive with character, so I can’t wait to see what Brantley can do with a whole building at his disposable. —Patrick McLean, Chicago Correspondent
Los Angeles
Staff Pick of the Week: Alt-Delete
This is your last chance — for now at least — to experience the latest chapter in the Blue Blade Saga, which takes the production value of Delusion and squeezes into an escape-room sized package. Jon Braver and GreatCo. keep experimenting with the form in all kinds of fun ways. —Noah Nelson, Publisher
Staff Most Anticipated: Crimson Cabaret
I’m a fan of everything The Unmarked Door has done thus far and very excited to see how they bring this concept to life in partnership with Moon/Shine Experiential. An immersive, interactive, spy-themed, Cabaret musical set in 1960’s Berlin? Sign. Me. Up. — Cara Mandel, NoPro Festival Correspondent
Virtual Reality
Staff Pick of the Week: The Under Presents (Oculus Quest)
Tender Claws gives us another world to dive into and uncover its secrets. This one however comes with a twist: Engage with characters like never before and unravel a mystery of time and magic. You can catch my review here, but don’t take my word for it — experience the wonder for yourself! — Will Cherry, VR/AR Correspondent
Staff Most Anticipated: Vader Immortal, Episode III (Oculus Quest/Rift)
As someone who isn’t the greatest at combat-based experiences, I am eager to find out if the player can die at the hands of Lord Vader. Which would be an honor. I think. — Kathryn Yu, Executive Editor
