This week: the teams for NYC, Chicago, LA, and VR all represent.
New York City
Staff Most Anticipated: Bon Voyage, Aloha (Russia)
Immersive theatre is delightful. Cocktails are delightful. Travel is delightful. An evening trying to wrap all three up, as a raucous winter night of storytelling, vodka, and the power of the senses? Consider me sold. The idea of a mini-vacation pairing culinary tourism with stories with recollections, music, and language of a country strikes me as a very cool attempt to bring an audience deeper than a typical meal or a drink could provide. — Blake
Patron Most Anticipated: It’s a Mediocre Life (12/16 and 12/17)
Coming off Where the F is Beverly, Purple Crayon Immersive is returning with another pop-up immersive experience in NYC, guiding attendees through Park Slope to help Edgar the elf get his bells back. — Michael Andersen, ARGN
Chicago
Staff Pick of the Week: The Ode at Pint’s End
On the one-year anniversary of nearly being lost at sea, three sailors recount their magical and haunting tale to the local pub patrons. Birch House’s latest experience is not only thoughtful and moving but perfectly pulls the audience in to help tell the tale, either as part of the crew or the sea itself. — Patrick McLean
Los Angeles
Staff Pick of the Week: Crimson CabaretOne of the most important things in immersive is creating a sense of place. This offering from The Unmarked Door manages to do just that. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that experienced immersive actors like Dasha Kittredge, Terence Leclere, and Emily Yetter are peppered throughout the cast. Director/co-writer Lola Kelly and co-writer/composer Rolfe Kent have made a mark with this one, which given a chance could evolve into a fixture. — Noah Nelson, Publisher & Host

After reading Noah’s review and listening to the wonderful Lola Kelly on the podcast last week, I’ve assembled some of my most puzzle-loving friends for a stylishly fantastic night out at Crimson Cabaret. Now if only I could remember where I left my beret… — Kathryn Yu, Executive Editor
Patron Pick of the Week: The NestHad the chance to catch the re-imagined Nest on Sunday, and it’s even more mind-blowing than the original. The folks at Scout have created a truly special experience unlike anything else, and I’m so excited that even more people will have the chance to see it with this new ticket release. Here’s hoping that they will keep running for a long, long time. — Matthew Bamberg Johnson, The Speakeasy Society
Patron Most Anticipated: Crimson CabaretI’m hearing such great things about Crimson Cabaret that I really want to check it out for myself! Sounds like a compelling combination of performative elements thrown into a vibrant party atmosphere- my kind of night! — Matthew Bamberg Johnson
Virtual Reality
Staff Pick of the Week: BONEWORKS (On Steam for PC headsets only)
The latest VR title from Duck Season and Hover Junkers developer Stress Level Zero released yesterday for Oculus Rift and SteamVR headsets (Vive/Index). Boneworks places you inside a machine’s simulation you must fight your way through, uncovering its secrets along the path of escape. While not known for story, this demanding game is an excellent example of realistic physics and VR interactions.— Will Cherry
