Immerse now? Immerse now!
It’s been a busy busy week, folks.
Meow Wolf: Origin Story hit theaters across the country for a special one-night-only screening and the film is now also available to stream online; Madison Wells Media immersive launched their new hybrid immersive theatre-virtual reality experience Chained in Los Angeles; and we published a mind-blowing number of reviews and interviews from LA to NYC and in-between. Plus applications for the Immersive Design Summit closed on November 30th! More on all that, below!
No Proscenium and Everything Immersive This Week is brought to you by The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts…

IMMERSIVE DESIGN SUMMIT NEWS

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK
Jesse Damiani, longtime friend of the show, drops by to talk about his continuing adventures in the world of XR. (That’s virtual, augmented, and mixed reality for those playing the home game.)
Recently he curated the art show Spatial Reality, which brought together multiple artists from across the reality spectrum for what was one of the biggest — if not the biggest — gatherings of XR art to date.
We sit down with Jesse, drink Noah’s favorite beer, talk about that show and wax philosophical as we are won’t to do. Come, join us.

From David & Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist:
“This is our second escape room newsletter. We’re planning to make this a monthly feature. Please share your news with us.”
From Lance Weiler, Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab:
“Even 200 years after its publication, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein still resonates. This brilliant story is a powerful metaphor for our collective anxieties about technology and its capacity to escape our control. Artificial intelligence activates those fears maybe more than any other technology ever has. So, what might happen if we invited AI to dinner?”
“Interesting to see how the studios are embracing R&D in an effort to navigate an ever-shifting digital landscape. While the experimentation is just scratching the surface it does demonstrate an appetite that could benefit those working with story and code.”
From Laura E. Hall, author and escape room/puzzle designer:
“Close-up magician Ricky Jay passed on November 24, 2018. This 1993 New Yorker profile is a truly wonderful tribute to a uniquely amazing talent.”
From Michael Anderson, ARGN.com:
“No Mimes Media released a short ARG to introduce the world of ‘Back to Earth.’ Cryptocurrency and microtransactions without crossing the going too far? We’ll see, but after the first installment I’m hopeful!”
“Blackout is a new horror-adjacent webseries about a group of sleepwalkers that just launched. The pacing already has me on edge, and if you pay close attention, you might even find evidence of the story extending beyond the videos.”
