It’s Wednesda… uh, it’s Thursday! And that means it is time (past time) for the Picks of the Week.
We polled our team and friends and this is what we got for the go-to choices for what to catch on this, the first full week post Halloween.
The immersiverse is ready for you now.
NEW YORK CITY
Pick of the Week: Now Serving: A Guide to Aesthetic Etiquette in Four Courses
I saw this last weekend and I still can’t get it out of my head. I’ve never experienced anything so bizarre and delightful. It felt like a drug-fueled, radical feminist interpretation of a 1950s Coronet film. More immersive shows should incorporate meatloaf, screeching violins, and water balloons. I’m thinking about going one more time, just to experience it again. — Cheyenne Ligon, NYC correspondent
Also picked by: Allie Marotta
Other picks: Ghost Ship Murder Mysteries at Wildrence (Blake Weil)
Chicago
Pick of the Week: Stay On The Line
The Martin’s yearly Halloween show is a suspenseful and thought-provoking treat. Being the only audience member for two of nine possible ten-minute experiences produces a rich and rewarding agency in my interactions. The suspense in my pieces is wonderfully built, allowing fears of all kinds to race through my mind. — Patrick McLean, NoPro Chicago

LOS ANGELES
Pick of the Week: The Séance (Anaheim)
I already recommended this once before, but Cross Roads has extended The Seance through November 23. If you were busy with spooky season shenanigans and couldn’t make it, well now is your chance to catch one of the highlights of the season in a well-deserved extension. — Kevin Gossett, NoPro La
Also picked as Most Anticipated by Anthony Robinson
Most Anticipated: SAFEHOUSE ’82
This is my first foray into a Safehouse assignment, but I spy myself Bonding with the puzzles based on such positive reception from colleagues. Yes, the puns are intentional. — Will Cherry
One Night Only Anticipated: Rhythm of the City
Art at the Rendon returns with a musical, site-specific performance, aiming to turn the building into “a simultaneous, collaborative performance that transforms the building itself into a musical instrument.” The aim is to reflect the incredible musical diversity of Los Angeles through music composed by Grammy-winning composer Heitor Pereira. And 100% of proceeds will benefit Play with Music, a Los Angeles nonprofit that brings music and technology education to underserved youth. — Kathryn Yu, NoPro Executive Editor
Virtual Reality
Most Anticipated: Pistol Whip, a VR headset near you
What do you get when you mix Beat Saber and Superhot? Apparently a virtual reality experience that has players feeling like America’s favorite action hero (or at least NoPro’s favorite action hero) John Wick, dodging and ducking as enemies shoot back at you in a rhythm game. The VR game from Cloudhead Games debuts on November 7 across most major headsets including Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive (with a PSVR version coming soon).
