Oh, the immersive places you’ll go!
The news never stops in Immersive-ville, folks. Never.
What happened this week? Dreamscape Immersive opened their first permanent location in Los Angeles this week, while IMAX VR announced they are shutting their three remaining locations down in Q1 of 2019. In brighter news: Meow Wolf announced their latest location will be Washington, DC in 2022 (after Las Vegas in 2019 and Denver in 2020). The Overlook Film Festival also announced that their weekend-long alternate reality narrative game experience for the festival will be created by an all-star team including some of the folks behind: In Another Room, AMOS: A Play with Music, The Society/The Boanthropic, and Stash House. And we trust you all got your applications into Magic Leap’s Indie Creator Program?

From Kent Bye, Voices of VR:
“I talked with Lucas Rizzotto, the creator of the VR experience of Where Thoughts Go. This experience fits into this mode of storytelling that I’ve been referring to as the ‘yin archetypal journey,’ which is focused on creating an embodied, phenomenological experience of emotional self-reflection & introspection. It’s also about being immersed with a matrix of experiential relationships that reveals the common threads of humanity, and shows how you as an individual are connected to a larger whole.”
From Lance Weiler, Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab:
“The following is a round up of 52 Immersive Things from 2018 that shouldn’t be missed. Big thanks to everyone who contributed to this round up. A valuable resource for anyone interested in looking at what caught the attention, mind and hearts of audiences in 2018.”
From Michael Anderson, ARGN.com:
“WIRED put out a short film about how to construct a crossword puzzle, featuring cruciverbalist David Kwong. And if you pay close attention, you might find another puzzle entirely, integrated into the video.”
